It is currently a critical period for the “summer harvest” season. In Lianhuachi Village, Yanzhuang Subdistrict, vast wheat fields have turned a golden yellow as more than 550 mu of wheat have entered the harvesting stage. Taking advantage of favourable weather conditions, the village has mobilised machinery to begin large-scale mechanised harvesting.

Combine harvesters are moving back and forth across the fields, cutting through the ripe wheat. The golden ears are drawn into the machines, where harvesting and threshing are completed in one seamless process. Standing at the edge of the field, village Party branch committee member Yang Shipu watched the harvest with visible satisfaction.

He calculated the efficiency gains brought by full mechanisation: “With mechanised operations, harvesting efficiency has improved significantly. One mu of land can be harvested in just over ten minutes, and yields are expected to reach around 1,200 jin per mu.”

After harvesting, the grain will be collected and sold collectively, supplying both local and external markets.

A key contributor to the harvest is the Liansheng Agricultural Machinery Service Cooperative in the village. The cooperative has deployed six combine harvesters, not only ensuring the timely harvest of local fields but also providing machinery rental services to neighbouring villages, helping to speed up the overall harvest process.

According to local reports, more than 11,200 mu of wheat across the broader Gangcheng District has recently entered the harvesting period. Authorities at all levels are coordinating machinery deployment, technical support, and safety measures to ensure smooth operations. Mechanised harvesting has become the main force behind the summer grain collection, which is expected to be largely completed by 14 June.

Once the wheat harvest is finished, attention will turn quickly to sowing maize at the appropriate time, ensuring a smooth transition to autumn crop production and laying a solid foundation for another year of grain stability and abundance.
